Project Overview

The client's biggest challenge with creating this basement living space was designing it to make it appear that the residents were not living underground. To do this, the foundation was excavated and lowered 3 feet to create 9-foot high ceilings and the walls were underpinned. In addition, large historic wood windows and an oversized glass pocket door were installed to bring in natural light. Finally, a separate south-facing entrance was created that did not originally exist. LED lights saturate the space with bright light and complement the contemporary design with luxury quartz countertop and custom European Hans Krug cabinetry.
